Cookie notice
Last updated: 2026
This site uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies. There is no advertising here, nothing is sold to data brokers, and you are not being followed around the internet on my behalf.
What a cookie is
A small text file a website stores in your browser. Some are essential to make a site function. Others record how a site is used. A few, on other people’s websites, follow you between sites to build an advertising profile. This site does not use that last kind.
What this site actually uses
Necessary
Cookies that make the site work. These keep forms functioning correctly, remember whether you have dismissed a notice, keep the site secure, and maintain a session if you log in as an administrator. Without these the site would not operate properly, so they cannot be switched off.
Spam protection
The forms on this site are protected by a service that distinguishes real visitors from automated ones. It receives limited technical information about your visit in order to do that. This exists so that somebody with a genuine tax problem can reach me without the form being buried under automated submissions.
Analytics
Aggregate statistics about how the site is used, such as which pages people read and how they arrived. This is used to work out which articles are worth writing more of. It is not used to identify you individually and it is not shared for advertising.
Embedded services
If you book an appointment or make a payment, those pages are provided by a scheduling service and a payment processor, which set their own cookies under their own policies. Those only apply when you use them.
What this site does not use
- Advertising cookies of any kind.
- Tracking pixels for social media platforms.
- Cross-site profiling or retargeting.
- Anything that sells or shares your browsing behaviour with a third party for their own purposes.
Fonts are hosted on this site’s own server rather than loaded from a third party, which means your visit is not reported to a font provider. That is a deliberate choice and a slightly unusual one.
How to control cookies
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, usually under Settings, then Privacy. You can block everything, block third-party cookies only, or clear what is already stored.
Blocking necessary cookies may stop forms working. Blocking analytics will not affect anything you can see.
Most browsers also offer a Do Not Track setting. There is no agreed standard for how websites should respond to it, so like most sites this one does not alter its behaviour on that basis. The list above is what is collected either way.
More detail
The privacy policy covers what happens to information collected through this site, including the protections that apply to tax return information. The security page explains how client documents are handled.
